Awanui Labs and ScreenSouth collaboration makes bowel cancer screening easier for Cantabrians

Awanui Labs and ScreenSouth Limited are working together to make bowel cancer screening easier and more accessible for people across Canterbury.

The collaboration supports the National Bowel Screening Programme, led by ScreenSouth, providing drop-off points for completed screening kits at Awanui Labs collection centres.

“The screening programme plays a vital role in detecting cancer early, improving treatment options and outcomes for patients,” says ScreenSouth Regional Bowel Screening manager Shelley Jackson.

“Eligible participants can return their kits to an Awanui Labs collection centre. Having drop-off points at collection centres is another way both our organisations are supporting better health outcomes by making healthcare services easier to access for local communities.”

Awanui Labs General Manager Te Waipounamu Andrea Guillemot says collection centres are located throughout the region, often close to shops and other amenities, and convenient for people to drop off their screening kits.

“We are proud to be working with ScreenSouth, delivering greater accessibility for bowel screening through our local network, and ensuring accurate and timely testing and reporting of results for patients.”

“Early detection remains one of the best ways to identify bowel cancer sooner and access the support and services available through Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora. Anyone eligible for bowel screening is encouraged to request and complete their kit and get screened,” says Shelly Jackson.
