Residents across the Selwyn District now have local access to blood collection and laboratory testing services at the new Awanui Labs collection centre in Rolleston, west of Christchurch.
The new collection centre at 45 Shelley Street was officially opened this week with a blessing and attended by Selwyn Mayor Sam Broughton, members of staff, and representatives from surrounding Rolleston health organisations.
“Awanui Labs is proud to be welcoming residents from Rolleston and across Selwyn to the new collection centre and be supporting the health and well-being of the local community, and the growth of the fastest growing district in New Zealand,” says Chief Operations Officer Nick Champness.
“Residents now have a more local service available to them for improved access to blood testing services. Using the Awanui service also provides patients with access to our national network and expertise.”
The centre provides a renovated, spacious facility for patients and staff with three collection rooms and capacity to add additional space in the future to grow alongside the community.
The Rolleston collection centre service will also be the first in the Canterbury region to provide a booking only service.
The booking-only service means patients can book an appointment through the Awanui Labs website or our call centre and be seen at the time which works for them, rather than waiting for an unknown amount of time like we have in many of our other centres.
“Much like the rest of the healthcare system, booking an appointment to access health services ensures people are seen at the time they choose,” says Nick Champness.
“It is always a wonderful moment to open a clinic for local communities, delivering greater access to our services and patient experience, supporting the future growth of the region.”
Thank you to Health New Zealand – Te Waipounamu team for their support in bringing this service to the region.
