Awanui Labs is the new name for our community and hospital laboratory services, which will begin rolling out across our current laboratory brands from June 2023. In these regions, our communities will receive their health testing by the same great people, in the same place, but with a different name, Awanui Labs.

Our laboratory testing and pathology specialists are a crucial part of delivering Aotearoa New Zealand’s healthcare. Approximately 70% of medical decisions and 100% of cancer diagnosis rely on pathology and laboratory tests. As well as playing this vital role for the last 60 years, Awanui Labs were critical in Aotearoa’s COVID-19 testing and surveillance programmes. During the pandemic we were delivering 40% of all COVID-19 testing in the country, the largest of any single service provider.

Our laboratory services are supported by highly-trained staff in over 150 collection centres, and across our IT, logistics, specimen reception, data entry, accounts, and commercial departments.
Our laboratories hold accreditation against ISO 15189:2012 as a medical testing laboratory service.
ISO 15189:2012 is an international standard for competence and quality in medical laboratories. It is applied by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).
