New purpose-built Awanui Labs Collection Centre opens in Stoke, Nelson

Awanui Labs is today (23 July 2025) celebrating the opening of our new purpose-built blood collection centre in Stoke, Nelson.

The new centre at 9 Bail Street will be officially opened with a formal welcome and Blessing attended by Nelson Mayor Hon Dr Nick Smith, Health New Zealand representatives, alongside Pacific Clinical Research Network – who has built the facility.

Chief Operating Officer Nick Champness said the new collection centre demonstrates a long standing commitment of Awanui Labs to ensuring local communities can access blood testing services.

“It is a spacious, modern facility providing a better experience for both patients, staff and healthcare professionals in the largest suburb of Nelson.

“It also ensures Awanui can meet the increasing demand for services as the population increases across the wider region,” says Champness.

The new Stoke blood testing centre can see 200 – 240 patients per day, compared with the former 100 – 120 patient spaces available at the smaller Tāhunanui centre.

“The centralised location is close to the supermarket, medical centres and on a main bus route, and only a short distance from rest homes and aged care facilities.

“We’ve worked closely with Health New Zealand to bring this improved service to the region and thank the regional Health New Zealand team for their support,” says Champness.

Awanui Labs welcomes residents to the new centre and encourages you to book your appointment so you’re seen at your expected time.
