Awanui launches BODYiQ to support proactive health management

Awanui is proud to launch BODYiQ – a next-generation self-requested testing service designed to help New Zealanders take a more proactive role in managing their health and wellbeing.

Chief Commercial Officer Scott Bishop says BODYiQ is the evolution of Awanui’s previous self-request test service, MyTests, and reflects the growing global movement towards personal ownership of health.

“For the past five years, Awanui has provided New Zealanders with a safe, clinically supported way to access trusted health information on their own terms, underpinned by our IANZ-accredited laboratories,” says Bishop.

“BODYiQ builds on this foundation to deliver an enhanced platform that complements, rather than replaces, primary care. It’s about giving people greater control, while staying connected to the clinical expertise they need.”

BODYiQ enables people to access laboratory testing for a variety of reasons – whether to establish a baseline for fitness and wellbeing, monitor an existing condition, or prepare for a more informed conversation with their GP.

Clinical governance is at the heart of BODYiQ.

“Our pathologists have been involved in every step – from selecting and designing test panels to providing expert commentary and educational resources,” Bishop explains.

“If results fall outside the normal range, they have the option of a follow-up directly through our partner, The Doctors Online with our Results Protection service. If results are critical, they are followed up directly by our clinical team or The Doctors Online regardless of whether the customer has opted into our Results Protection service.”

Test results are delivered securely via a digital portal, featuring clear explanations to support patient understanding. Customers can also opt for Results Protection, which provides direct access to a New Zealand-registered GP for additional guidance if needed.

Dr Kim Hurst, Clinical Director at Green Cross Health & The Doctors Online, says BODYiQ addresses a growing demand for personalised health insights.

“People increasingly want to act before symptoms appear, track their health over time, and access testing that reflects their personal concerns – whether it’s fatigue, hormone balance, or heart health,” says Dr Hurst.

“BODYiQ isn’t about replacing the GP model. It’s a clinically supported service that gives people additional tools, data, and insights to have more meaningful conversations with their healthcare providers.”

Enhancing the health system

Bishop emphasises that BODYiQ plays an important role in supporting the wider health system.

“This service is designed to be safe, accessible, and clinically governed. It provides clear, accurate, and transparent information – and ensures patients can connect with clinicians whenever it’s needed.

“BODYiQ reinforces Awanui’s role as a trusted partner in New Zealand’s healthcare network while improving the customer experience, supporting proactive health management, and reducing pressure on primary care.”
